I have talked to many people about this and am amazed at the number of people who have given credence to this so-called prediction. Even members of my own family say they don't really believe it but why take a chance. They are waiting until after Dec. 21 to pay bills or make any major decisions. I don't understand it.

Here are the thoughts of Dr. Joe Vitale, a self-made millionaire. I know he has something to sell...haven't we all?...but at the same time I value his take on life in general and his ideas on this Mayan thing in particular. What do you think?

I don't know how I feel about the whole 'end of the world' thing. I don't believe the world is going to end in a big bang of light and we'll all just be dead, but hey, if it does, we'll all be dead and there's no one left to care. A tragedy is only tragic to the people who are left behind to think and mourn about it. If everyone's dead, it's a shame, but not a tragedy.

Personally, I think the so-called "end of the world" is a slower process. I think we're seeing it now, massive storms and earthquakes, things like that. The world is changing and shifting, to settled humans who rely on the systems of their cities, those disruptions are disasters and tragedies. The world as we know it may well change, but I doubt it will happen on one apocalyptic day. I certainly don't think the Mayans predicted it. I heard somewhere that, because they didn't count leap years, the Mayan prediction should have happened months ago, anyway.

Just my thoughts. In 20 days, I guess we'll see.

Well, the way it was pointed out to me, when the Mayan calender was made, it did not take into account the leap years. Leap years are an old Roman thing, Julius Caeser to be exact, so technically, the end of the world was several hundred years ago.
We look pretty good for dead people.

Now I haven't researched this at all, but I thought that because they based their time scale off of cosmic events that their time records were 0.25 days per year more accurate than ours, or some such nonsense, hence negating the necessity for a leap year...

As for me, if my wife can manage to get the day off at work, I plan to go camping on the 21st and enjoy the stars for all they're worth.

Personally, I do not believe it. I plan on enjoying that day as any other day.

With popcorn!

Popcorn? Really Lenore? You're not gonna share? By the way, will you let me stay up until midnight to post something on FaceBook that day?

Sure. But you will be with your father that night, remember?

Why's it have to end on a payday? Grrr.

But yeah, I tweeted today, "End of the world this Friday. Anybody know what time zone that's in?" :P

Too be honest I'm laughing at this whole "End of the World" prediction as this is like the what, seventh one in the past 12 years? Just too hard not to laugh and if it does happen to end, than I'll guess I'll die laughing :P Though it does make me think of a quote from a game I played long time ago, Chrono Trigger to be exact, which just happens to be right down here

Oh, of course. Every generation seems to be the one that wants to be there when it happens. I remember people saying it would end during my senior year of high school. My reaction then was similar to now and I'd ask: "Is that before or after graduation?" :P

And let's not get started on Y2K, lol.

So, will the end happen spontaneously, or will it start with Australia and Japan, since they are a day ahead of us? If it goes by time zone, Hawaii will be the last to go. :)

We were talking about that last night!
So, will Hawaii be laughing at the rest of the world as it crumbles to dust before it's time to go? Seriously. I need to know.
On a side note, I really don't think it will end.
