A fascinating read about, well, reading. The Neuroscience of Your Brain on Fiction.

For instance:

individuals who frequently read fiction seem to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and see the world from their perspective.

Although my favorite part was about the sensory cortex responses reading can evoke. Pretty cool :)

Amazing! And I know it's true. When I read about a particularly delightful meal, I salivate and my stomach rumbles. There is some reading that is just plain satisfying. I don't even mean the plot--I mean the actual writing, be it good dialogue or engaging descriptions.

I thought the different reactions in reading "a velvet voice" as opposed to "a pleasant voice" were eye-opening. Now we know why we are urged to show instead of telling.

Great article! Thanks for sharing it, Kally.
